When do you start/finish recruiting?
The bulk of our positions are available for our busy summer period, from early October through to the end of March. We open our summer applications online generally in early August each year. Closing dates vary by position – all recruitment is generally closed by November, however we can recruit at any time of the year if vacancies exist, in which case they will be listed online. Keep an eye on the Positions Available section of our website for up to date details. If you are only available for some of this time we will accept your application though make sure you let us know when you can work.
How do I get a work visa?

I’m an Australian citizen/resident do I need a work visa to get a job in New Zealand?

What are the pay rates?
How much you are paid depends on the position you have applied for and your previous experience either in or out of the hospitality industry. Our minimum starting rate is $13.40 per hour. However, we recognise the value of each individual and are happy to discuss pay and conditions with you.
Do you provide training?
Yes. We're committed to providing continuous on-the-job or off-the-job training that would introduce you to new skills or extend the ones you already have.
Where will I live?
Living with new friends is part of the great Aoraki Mount Cook employment experience. The majority of our staff live in the Mount Cook village.
Within the Mount Cook village we have several accommodation blocks where the majority of staff are housed. Each single room has a single bed, set of drawers, wardrobe and hand basin. You do not have to share a room and your room is lockable. We don't have separate blocks for men and women, so be prepared for unisex loos and showers.
Couples or those in more senior and supervisory positions will have access to double rooms, a number of which have their own bathroom facilities. We also have a limited number of 'motel' style accommodation which have cooking facilities and a private bathroom.

How much does the accommodation cost?
Depending upon your accommodation type, Board and Lodgings starts at $133 a week, which covers rent, meals and electricity and will be deducted out of your pay each week. For accommodation with cooking facilities the rate includes on shift meals only.
Is there a laundry fairy or do I do it myself?
Washing machines and driers in each accommodation block are free for use, just provide your own washing powder.
What do I do about food?
For staff without cooking facilities you will be provided good meals three times a day in the large staff dining room. Staff with cooking facilities will be provided on shift meals only.
What social activities are available in the Mount Cook area?
Aside from pursuits like climbing, biking, or swimming in the local lakes, you can make good use of the fully equipped gym and the tennis courts. Remember to bring your favourite CDs or fitness video.
Our World Heritage National Park is one big playground. We won't push you out there but we may heartily encourage you to go for it! The local walks range from saunters to rambles, how much energy you use up is entirely up to you!
What's the weather like during the Summer?
February is the hottest month and October/November are the wettest. The Mountain climate is very changeable we reccommend you bring a raincoat as we can get four metres of rain a year, and a swim suit as on the hot days staff often go to the blues lakes for a swim.
What should I bring with me?
Contact us before you arrive to discuss the type of accommodation and personal items you may need. We are able to supply you with duvets, blankets, sheets and pillowcases (though you are welcome to bring your own). Apart from that:
We suggest you bring along any other personal items that will help you to feel right at home - so don't forget your TV and stereo!
What is a covering letter and "CV"?
A covering letter is a short letter introducing yourself and stating your suitability for the position you are applying for.
C.V. stands for curriculum vitae, or resume, and is a quick summary of your achievements, skills, education and training.
Applications without these attachments will not be considered.
