We are deeply saddened by today’s news of the passing of Sir Edmund Hillary, an extraordinary man and pioneer.
He will be an immense loss to Lady June Hillary, his family, and to us and the public of New Zealand.
Even in advancing years, Sir Edmund regularly visited The Hermitage and he will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
We feel extremely privileged to have our recently opened attraction in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park named after Sir Edmund Hillary and feel honoured that we can celebrate his life on a daily basis by sharing his memories, achievements and legacy.
Through the centre we will strive to uphold Sir Edmund Hillary’s charity work by supporting his “Himalayan Trust;” which assists in the development of schools, villages and hospitals in Nepal.
