Weather
The climate within Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is typical of a mountainous area. Temperatures can range from above 30 degree Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) in the summer (December to February) to below –10 degrees Celsius (12 degrees Fahrenheit) during the winter months (June to August). The village also experiences a high level of rainfall each year, and the yearly average currently stands above 4000mm (157 inches) and rain falls on average for 149 days every year. Snowfalls during the winter are not uncommon, and snow lies around the village for an average of 21 days every year.

In any month of the year the weather here in Mount Cook can vary from extended periods of sunshine to sudden torrential down pours, snow or strong gales. As we are in a mountainous area the weather conditions can change very rapidly from one extreme to the other. It is therefore advisable to be prepared for any weather condition.
