How To Apply

This application forms part of the conditions of employment with Aoraki/Mount Cook Alpine Village Limited trading as “The Hermitage”.  It is to be personally completed by the applicant.

Applications for employment with the Hermitage can only be made online. Before you apply, please read all of the following information:

The Privacy Act 1993

The information you supply in this application is solely to assess your suitability for employment within a hotel/operation managed by Aoraki/Mount Cook Alpine Village Limited trading as “The Hermitage” in the position concerned. This information will be held in a secure place. No information will be disclosed to unauthorised parties without your prior approval, except as required by law. You have the right to view your personal information held by the hotel in the presence of the Privacy Officer and may request correction if necessary. If your application is unsuccessful, information submitted as part of this application will be deleted from our database, unless we inform you otherwise.

Only one application per person can be accepted. You are given the opportunity to select one position for which you wish to apply. If you are unsuccessful in your application for this position, you should indicate as part of your application a second choice position and/or whether or not you are interested in being considered for other positions that the hotel thinks that you may be suitable.

Your email address:
You must have your own email address.  All correspondence with you will be via email so it is important that you have a valid email address.

File attachments:
All attachments to your application must be in Microsoft Word, or Abode Acrobat. Other file types including MS Publisher are not supported by our system.

Your covering letter should tell us about why you are suitable for the position that you are applying for – remember, we get 100s of applications so this is your chance to shine!

Your resume should back up and expand on information provided in your application form including details of any qualifications gained and details of your previous employment. Previous employment information should include the positions held and detail duties, responsibilities and reasons for leaving each one.

Your application cannot be considered if attachments are not supplied, if incorrect documents are provided or if attachments are blank.

Information for International Applicants:

In general, you are only entitled to work in New Zealand if you are a NZ citizen or resident, or an Australian citizen or if you hold a valid work permit. We are happy to accept applications from people who hold Working Holiday Visas so long as they are entitled to work for us for a minimum of three months and who intend to work for the hotel for as long as their work permit allows (please note, this is only applicable to some positions). We do not offer any work experience placements.

Each year, the hotel sponsors a small number of applications who require work permits – these positions include Japanese speaking and Senior Chef positions. Relevant experience and qualifications are essential to any application that requires the sponsorship of work permits.

Length of Contract:

Our summer season starts in October and usually runs until the following March. Some positions may become available in January or February and run until mid to late May. Some contracts may also be extended through our winter period.  Information on contract type and length is available in the Job Description of each position listed as available on our online application form.
